Dreaming

It is unclear if Joris knows exactly what dreams are, or what dreaming is. He obviously does it and he even has a ready-made, standard answer to the question of if he had any dreams during his sleep or nap.

"One dream"

"What happened in your dream?"

"Aap, George and Uil singing Coco and the Garbage Truck"

Which either means that he is suffering from the same dreadfully repetitive dream where his stuffed animals sing a story to him, or that he figured out we liked that answer so much that he'll just use it each time we utter the word dream.

But, sometimes we get a glimpse into what he really dreams about.

Joris always has had a hard time in adjusting back to the awake world again after waking up. At worst, there is up to an hour or more of crying and at the least there is some disorientation, eye rubbing and a bit of whining.

Yesterday, I got up with him in the morning and as soon as I stepped into his room he started urging me to take him into the living room as if it was a matter of life and death, so I did. He looked wildly around, as if searching for something.

"Obaba?...OBABA?!"

"Um. Obama? He is at his home at the White House."

"Obaba come to Joris house?"

He seemed genuinely disappointed not to find the president there, waiting for him to share a bowl of oatmeal.

I just read this out loud to Jack. We both laughed a lot. I guess there's only one person Joris knows by name but hasn't ever met. It makes sense that his mind is trying to put Obama in your house.

Too funny! Must be confusing for him, though...
